SF March Madness Fan Guide

March Madness is one of the greatest times of the year for sports fans.  The exciting last-second finishes and massive upsets are a guarantee in the tournament each year.  Luckily, San Francisco has a designated bar for mutual fans to watch the games together.  Although most smaller schools do not have their own affiliated bar in San Francisco, local watch parties will be hosted by most colleges in the tournament. 2 Michigan State vs 15 Bradley

The marquee location to watch the Spartans and Blue Devils is at The Brick Yard on Union Street.  Located in the trendy Pac Heights/Marina area, this bar is nearby the stunning Marina Cove and 2000 Broadway Apartments.  The Michigan State game versus Bradley will be shown Thursday afternoon while Duke will take on the winner of the play-in game on Friday.

VCU fans often meet at The San Francisco Athletic Club and you can stay tuned to UCF’s Bay Area Alumni Chapter.

Virginia Tech vs 13 Saint Louis

Many Bay Area based Virginia Tech Hokies Fans will be there in person to watch their team take on Saint Louis in San Jose.  However, the best place watch in San Francisco is certainly at The Bus Stop in The Marina.

6 Maryland vs 11 Belmont/Temple

Maryland fans typically enjoy games at The Boardroom, but make sure to check their Facebook page for updates.

3 LSU vs 14 Yale

Although LSU is typically a football school, there are multiple options including Northstar Cafe and Originial Joe’s for fans to watch their highly ranked basketball team take on Yale.

 Louisville vs 10 Minnesota

Golden Gopher games are shown at Final Final while Louisville fans often gather at The Brick Yard.

1 Gonzaga vs 16 FDU/PVIEW

Fans of the Zags can usually be found gathered around the TVs at Pete’s Tavern.

Fans of the Volunteers know the best place to watch the game is Hollow Cow, a trendy bar on Union Street.

1 UNC vs 16 Iona

The number one bar for North Carolina Tarheel fans in San Francisco is located in the Lower Haight neighborhood near Duboce Park.  A popular Irish pub, Danny Coyle’s often shows soccer matches but will be packed with rowdy UNC fans this week.  The Tarheels will take on the sixteenth seeded Iona Gaels… There is not one but two sets of Gaels in this year’s NCAA tournament!
